About The Plaice to Know
The Plaice to Know is a fan-made map of every curious place mentioned on No Such Thing As A Fish, the British weekly podcast from the QI offices.
Each pin is a real place that came up in a real episode, with the actual fact that brought it up — pulled directly from the transcript — and a link back to the moment in the show. It reads like a travel companion, except every entry exists because someone on the panel said something funny or surprising about it.
Why this exists
The show has been running since 2014 with over 500 episodes. There's an enormous backlog of well-researched anecdotes about specific places — Wizard Academies, ice-skating accidents, mineral-naming disputes — but they're trapped inside the audio. This site is a partial attempt to make them browsable as a map.
How to use it
- Filter pins with the sidebar toggles. Default is the 96 best-audited entries (Show favourites + Recurring); flip on One-off to see the long tail or Fictional & space to see places like Mars and the Soviet Union.
- Click any pin for a popup with the place name, the fact, and a link to the transcript at the right moment.
- Search by name in the sidebar — type “Loch Ness” and press a result to fly the map there.
