Map data
Vector basemap tiles self-hosted by us, built with the Protomaps basemap, drawn from OpenStreetMap contributors. Place coordinates are geocoded via Wikidata + Nominatim, with hand-corrected overrides where the geocoder picked the wrong real-world place. A handful of fictional and off-Earth places (Mars, Atlantis, Roman Empire) get synthetic coordinates so they cluster together unambiguously.

The “About” summaries on each place page come from English Wikipedia under CC BY-SA 4.0. Hero images come from Wikimedia Commons under a mix of Creative Commons and public-domain licences. Each image links back to its Commons file page where the specific licence and contributor are listed.
