René, I think, was the only female parachutist in the British Army during the war. They were sent in with the 13th Lancashires. One of the articles I read said they were called Paradox — short for parachuting dogs.

The first public parachute jump, as far as we know, was done by Louis Sebastian Lennemond in Montpellier in France. His very first jump was off a tree holding two umbrellas.
