It used to be, or big daft hats stopped being in fashion, basically. It was partly because of cars. I went to the Hat Museum and they said it was because of cars. Because when you get into a car, if you have a big hat with a feather on top, then it's going to get squashed by the top of the car. Or knocked off as you get in and you have to replace your hat at the end of every car journey.
