About Hawaii

Hawaii is an island state of the United States, in the Pacific Ocean about 2,000 miles (3,200 km) southwest of the U.S. mainland. One of the two non-contiguous U.S. states, it is the only state not on the North American mainland, the only state that is an archipelago, the only state south of the Tropic of Cancer, one of only two states, along with Florida, with regions that have a tropical climate, and one of the two U.S. states, along with Texas, that were internationally recognized sovereign countries before becoming U.S. states.

In Hawaii, they used to revere incest. They had a system called Nia Upo-O, whose aim was to keep the royal lineage as clear as possible. The very top of the society was a capu and that was a product of a royal brother and sister, and if you were the son or daughter of a royal brother or sister you were considered a god.

Other times Hawaii came up

  1. They're obviously spies aren't allowed to tell people what they do for a living. There was a former CIA agent called Douglas Lang, who did an AMA on Reddit. He said he told his family he was a low-level salesman because he doesn't tend to invite more questions. When he got sent to Afghanistan, he told his family he was going to Hawaii. He thought it's far enough away. They kept trying to visit him.

  2. Did he? He wasn't a professional. He did try it a few times, which was really exciting. He really enjoyed it. Barack Obama in 2008 went surfing in Hawaii, where the mushroom... He's from Hawaii, no? Yes, exactly. He went back and he went surfing, and he went surfing on a beach called Sandy Beach Park. It was such an event to have him surfing, although I think it turns out he was just body surfing, so without the board.

  3. This is quite apposite, actually. Pete Conrad died on the 8th of July, 1999, sadly, after crashing his motorcycle while riding through Ohio, California. Apparently, Ohio comes from the word Hawaii, which is a Native American word from the Ventureño language. I really regret reading this one. Please, if you do, if you are someone who knows about the Ventureño language, in fact, you probably won't know that because I probably pronounced that wrong as well.

  4. That physicists at the University of Hawaii have recently solved the problem the secret of how washing machines get clothes clean. It's never been known until now. There are now two physicists who know the secret of how that works. The other one is that 2018 was a bad year for Hawaii. They had a massive volcanic explosion. The authorities warned people not to toast marshmallows over it, which is very good advice.
