Millennium Dome

About Millennium Dome
The Millennium Dome was the original name of the large dome-shaped building on the Greenwich Peninsula in South East London, England, which housed a major exhibition celebrating the beginning of the third millennium. When opened in 1999, it was the fifth largest building in the world by usable volume. The exhibition was open to the public from 1 January to 31 December 2000. The project and exhibition were highly contentious and attracted barely half of the 12 million customers its sponsors forecasted, and so were deemed a failure by the press. All the original exhibition elements were sold or dismantled.

It was under the Millennium Dome, and they accidentally dug it up and damaged it. They've taken all the bits out and put them in the office, and they're going to rebury them. It was buried in 1998 to sort of go under the Millennium Dome, and it is the most 90s collection of things you could find.

It is, isn't it? It really is, yeah. It is a bit smaller than that.

My fact this week is that during the Festival of Britain in London in 1951, children would deliberately go missing because the local police station, where they waited for their parents, had the capital's best collection of comic books. That's incredible. This was a huge big deal. In 1951, this is a festival of Britain, probably the last massive festival we had in the UK before the Millennium Dome was built. This... Don't laugh at the...

It's got a picture of Tony Blair in a high-vis vest. It's got some... One of the great beauties of the day. It's got some felt from the roof of the Millennium Dome. What I think strange is, like this Blue Peter one, for instance, we know what's in it. They were only planning to open it in 2050 or something. Presumably, we're still going to know what was in it then.
