Here's an island that I'd never heard of, Dejima. This was created in Nagasaki Bay in the 17th century in Japan and during the Edo period Japan wanted to be a closed country so it didn't want anyone else to come in. The only people that were allowed to go anywhere near Japan were Chinese, Korean and Dutch and they were allowed to do that for trading reasons.
