Other times South Pole came up
Oh, wow. You imagine people who are in the Arctic are responsible geographers or environmentalists or something, not people who just like yoink a penguin up and take it with them. Don't tell me if you went sailing down the South Pole, and you saw a penguin there, you wouldn't go, I might just... I definitely would. I don't deny that, but I'm not qualified to be doing that job.

It's difficult. The reason I got interested in this is because I discovered that Scott of the Antarctic suffered from Scurvy. It's controversial as to whether his final mission was affected by Scurvy, but certainly earlier missions were, and some of the people he went to, tried to get to the South Pole with were affected by Scurvy. I thought, hang on a minute. He's a British Navy captain.

Very, very cool. How nice is that? This was when Scott was in the South Pole. He was stuck in his tent. He was 100% sure he was about to die. He thought he'd write a few letters, as you do. His last letter was to his wife. It's 1912. He's cold in a tent. He's managing somehow to get his hand around a pen. He says to his wife, make sure when you're raising our son, make the boy interested in nature.
